CinchTrax: Frequently Asked Questions

CTx™ Limitations

CTx™ devices are not indestructible! As with anything else, they do have limitations. We have designed and built these for slick, muddy, icy and/or snow-covered surfaces thus, they need to be treated just like placing tire chains on a vehicle - go slow, be cautious and don't go ballistic just because you have traction! Caution needs to be taken in steep or snow-covered terrain with downed logs/trees, stumps, boulders and/or other uneven large obstacles. These devices can fail and/or become severely damaged.

CTx™ does not warranty or replace damaged devices from improper or extreme use or not properly checking your clearances prior to use.

Minimum Ordering Requirements

Initial orders of CTx are a minimum of 10 Full-Track Chain devices or a minimum of 12 Half-Track devices. Returning customers have no minimum purchase requirements.

How many Half-Track CTx™ devices do I need per track?

We recommend 6 Half-Track devices per track. Although, in extreme situations such as steep grades and/or slopes we, recommend a minimum of 10 or more per track. The number of devices per track is entirely dependent upon their application of use and individual traction requirements.

How often do I have to check them and how many foot pounds of torque do I need to apply?

We recommend checking CTx as you would check anything else on your machine. Hourly, daily, weekly, etc. It really depends on the extent of use and abuse you place on them. We recommend tightening the 5/8" bolt snuggly against their washers to ~125 ft.lbs max for Grade 5. We recommend checking them frequently during all day use.

Please use caution with an impact gun that you do not over-tighten and strip the bolt and/or nut.

What is the difference between the ‘Full' & 'Half-Track' CTx™?

We designed CTx™ for several types of applications. The Full-Track chain design is the best all around traction for all conditions including uneven surfaces as seen in logging/forestry applications, or extreme pushing or dirt and/or snow. Those types of applications can occur in slick, steep terrain and thus require additional secured ground traction control which the chain devices will provide exceptional lateral slide protection.

The Half-Track design is for a light to medium use application. Just because they say ‘half’ does not imply they can only do half the work! These are very effective as a ground traction control device! They are ideal for those looking to snow blow driveways or roads even on a steep slope or grade, move material around in muddy or slick areas and/or farming applications in pastures or fields or needing recovery work from those ‘oh shit' situations.  If you watch our videos, almost all of the CTx™ devices used are the Half-Track!

Will CTx™ cut and ruin my tracks?

CTx will bite into the rubber of the valley and the underside of your track by approximately 1/8" to 1/4" of an inch. This will not harm or ruin your tracks. Tracks become marred and gouged running over rocks and sticks and will create more damage/imperfections to your tracks than our devices.

Do I have to drill anything into my tracks?

Absolutely not! CTx™ were designed to maintain the integrity of your tracks without having to drill any holes or place studs into them.

How long does it take to install and/or remove a set of CTx™?

If you have an impact wrench it will take ~ 8-10 minutes to install and/or remove a set. That includes moving your machine forward or back to place them evenly. If you use a hand wrench and/or socket, well that will take you longer.

How rough is the ride going to be with the CTx™?

The vibrations and variation in ride comfort are based on several factors. First, the fewer devices per track, the rougher the ride may be. This is proportionate to the spacing of the devices on the track with the rise and fall during a full revolution of the track. Second, the ground surface will also determine how rough the ride will be. On hard compacted material such as packed dirt, gravel, asphalt or concrete, the ride may be rough, especially at higher speeds with fewer devices.

What kind of warranty do they have?

CTx™ is warranted against any manufactured defect for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase with proof of purchase. However, wear to the traction control cleat is not considered a defect therefore, not a warranted item. Any weld breaking free from the device itself is covered within the 12 month period.

Why wouldn’t I buy a new set of tracks rather than spend the same amount of money on CTx™

Before CTx™, we tried almost everything currently on the market. We drilled holes in our tracks, placed literally hundreds of ice-studs in each track and even rented a machine with winter tracks (zig-zag pattern), yet we still could not get up our steep driveway! With that said, you certainly can go buy a brand new set of the greatest “winter tracks”, HOWEVER, no matter how new they are, how aggressive the rubber tread pattern is or how much experience you have as an operator, you will still not be able to climb a steep grade, navigate safely on a steep or icy sloped road or driveway, especially while using an attachment ie. snow blower, snow pusher, angle blade, etc… without ’something’ other than your OEM tracks!
